About: Lochill Luo

Lochill (Owen) Luo is an independent musician and multi-instrumentalist in Hangzhou, China. Since initiating his music career in Grade 6, Luo has been involved in various projects and outfits, such as the instrumental hip-hop project Soulooper, the Midwest emo outfit Qiaopihua, and the ambient music duo people underline. He also runs the charitable DIY label Happy Records and a physical record store.

Luo is also pursuing an academic/journalism career. Since first diving into sociology in senior high, he had been interested in various issues. Being inspired by Pierre Bourdieu, Jacques Rancière, Erving Goffman, etc., he has explored topics such as the sociology of education, social inequality, human rights, and democracy from a micro-sociological and qualitative research perspective. His proficiency in Chinese, English and Hokkien allows him to immerse himself in distinct cultures, documenting and analysing his surroundings through the lens of multiculturalism.
